Magnetron
Magnetron's glistening steel walls offer 20,000 magnets - magnets that talk,
sing, ring, and beep; magnets that light up, change color, and glow in the dark;
magnets in the shapes of food, animals, characters, everyday objects like
telephones, and things from out of this world, including this planet's largest
selection of magnetic space aliens. Many Magnetron items are available nowhere
else in this galaxy.
At Magnetron, every few minutes, lights dim as the store's "magnetic generator"
is powered. Electricity crackles up along the ceiling, while at the store's
center, luminous waves of energy rise to a great horseshoe magnet overhead. At
last, a brilliant electric flash bolts into the night sky, trailing an array of
phosphorescent "nebulae".
Magnet mogul Margaret Majua started small 10 years ago, opening the world's
first magnet store inside a former elevator shaft at San Francisco's waterfront
attraction PIER 39. Today, with 10 stores in Hawaii, San Francisco, Las Vegas,
and now, Walt Disney World Resort, the sun sets only briefly on her magnet
empire.
Award winning Ace Architects, based in Oakland, California, has differently
themed each of these stores, emphasizing the fun, color, and near mind boggling
diversity of refrigerator magnets. their design for Magnetron at the Walt Disney
World Resort is energetic, colorful and spatially charged, provoking nearly
palpable sensations, in a store that is really out of this world.
